Fellowship

Parish Retreat
Some years in late-September or early-October, we take our worship and fellowship into the countryside.  Most recently, we had our retreat at Lake Macintosh. Following an informal worship, we enjoyed both structured activities and unstructured leisure.

Pot-luck Luncheons
Several times a year, we gather in the Great Hall after the 10:30 worship service to share a meal chosen from a groaning board of covered dishes. Towards the conclusion of this fellowship, we hear words from the Rector and the Senior Warden on the state of the church and are encouraged to pose questions in a town hall type forum.

Wednesday Lenten Suppers
Each year during Lent, we gather on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 to enjoy a simple meal and a short program revolving around a central theme. Watch this space for the topic of the 2008 Lenten series.

Home Gatherings
Twice a year, those parishioners who wish to participate come together with six to eight other people to form a home gathering group. These groups meet for four dinners in each others’ homes over several months.  Following a cycle of dinners, the groups are reshuffled and the cycle starts again. Begun over 20 years ago in our parish, home gathering groups have served to give parishioners an opportunity to know each other better through an informal social gathering.

Journey to Adulthood
Although the primary focus of the J2A program is Christian formation for the youth of the parish, fellowship and friendship are side benefits of the spiritual journey.

Mature Voice
A clever name to describe the young at heart, this group of parishioners meets on the fourth Thursday of each month for pot-luck lunch and fellowship starting at 11:30 am. Occasionally there is a short program. There is no minimum age requirement.

Men’s Breakfast
Wednesday mornings at 6:45, the men of the church gather at the Burlington Diner on S. Church St. at the intersection of Routes 54 & 62 for breakfast and a short program by a community leader. Past speakers have included the city managers for Burlington, Elon, Graham, and Mebane, administrators from Elon University, and parishioners sharing their own life/work life stories. The breakfast is open to all men of the parish.

Sunday Coffee & Chat
Between services on Sunday morning, parishioners join together for coffee and informal conversation in the church Parlor. Whether debating the merits of N.C. State versus Carolina, national news, or the mystery of the Incarnation, Holy Comforter folks enjoy this chance to talk.

Sunday Hospitality
Following the 10:30 service, parishioners, clergy, and newcomers alike join for lemonade on the lawn (in summer) or coffee in the parlor. All are invited to meet and make new friends or spend a few moments with old ones.

Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
On the second Monday of each month, the women of the church gather at 10:00 a.m. for fellowship, refreshments, and a short program. Recent programs have included a series on Women in the Bible. The ECW also sponsors several service opportunities with Loaves & Fishes food ministry and Allied Churches.  All women of the church are welcome.

Tuesday Bible Study
This year the group is studying the Acts of the Apostles. They meet every other Tuesday morning at 10 am for one hour and a half to share views and learn.  All are invited to participate.
