Outreach
Serving each other at Holy Comforter There are many ways one may volunteer to serve Christ in the ministry of worship. These opportunities include: Newcomer MinistryFollowing Christ’s charge to Peter, “Tend my flock,” Newcomer Ministry at Holy Comforter serves those who find themselves for the first time at our door. This ministry begins with those who stand in the tower welcoming worshippers and follows with those who deliver bread to visitors’ homes. A faithful group, known as Shepherds, oversees the transition of first time visitor to comfortable worshippers. Another group mentors newcomers within the parish family, introducing them to Holy Comforter folk, helping non-Episcopalians through the Sunday liturgies, and assisting all in the transition from stranger to friend. Tape Ministry Those who miss services for whatever reasonbe it illness, snow, or vacationmay hear any of Holy Comforter’s services via cassette tape. Volunteers are responsible for recording the worship service. Prayer Chain This vital link to the needs of the parish, parishioners, and their families, provides the most powerful remedy prayer. Persons who serve on the prayer chain communicate through a telephone tree and then they pray for the requested needs. Sunshine Committee This group of caring parishioners prepares meals for parishioners following surgery, the birth of a child, or the death of a loved one. Members serve on a rotation schedule of one month per year. St. Martha’s Guild This newest ministry at Holy Comforter knits and crochets afghans and prayer shawls for those who need some warmth, for those who are grieving or recuperating from illness, and for newly baptized children. Finished products are presented in a spirit of prayer and kinship with the recipient. All interested in this kind of hand work are invited to join. Serving the Community Many opportunities exist for us to serve God in ministering to others. We are continually seeking parish-wide mission opportunities and have established a Holy Comforter Mission Fund to provide funds for these projects. At Holy Comforter, we participate in the following outreach ministries: Alamance ElderCareThe photo at left shows Holy Comforter representatives to the 2008 Super Bowl Fundraiser for Alamance ElderCare: Former Parish Administrator Debbie Strickland, Sue Buckley, Nancy Smith, Nancy Slott & Susan Ryan.
