| Life Events Often, we first realize (or reaffirm) the meaning of Church in our lives during significant life events. Turning points, “rites of passage,” may inspire closer connection to others in our world and to God. WeddingsIf you are interested in being married at Holy Comforter, you are encouraged to attend worship services. Due notice must be given to the office and Rector, and dates arranged well in advance, to allow sufficient time for premarital preparation. Premarital counseling of at least three sessions is required of all wedding couples. For more information, call the Office Administrator, Mrs. Ginny Allison, at 336-227-4251. BaptismHoly Baptism is offered to infants, children and adults during principal worship services on Sundays throughout the year, including during the late spring visitation, traditionally around Pentecost, of the Bishop or Assisting Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. Baptism instruction with the Rector is required. Contact the Office Administrator, Mrs. Ginny Allison, at 336-227-4251 for further information and arrangements. Confirmation Confirmation (Re-Affirmation of Baptismal Vows) at Holy Comforter is offered to youth and adults once a year in the late spring, traditionally around Pentecost, with the visitation of the Bishop or Assisting Bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. Adult Inquirers Classes, open to all “inquiring minds” wishing to know more about the Episcopal Church, are held by the Rector on Sunday evenings each spring after Easter. During Inquirers Classes, participants may decide to become baptized, confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church by the Bishops. Contact the Office Administrator, Mrs. Ginny Allison, at 336-227-4251 for specific dates of classes and bishop visitation. Funerals Family members are asked to notify the Office Administrator, Mrs. Ginny Allison, or the Rector, The Rev. David Williams of a death as soon as possible. Either Ginny or David may be reached at 336.227.4251. Burial from the church is encouraged, and a Memorial Garden for the interment of ashes in the church grove is available for those desiring it. The Episcopal Church has recognized cremation as a Christian form of burial for many years. The Memorial Garden of Holy Comforter, consecrated for the sacred disposition of ashes of loved ones who have died and passed into the greater life of God, is a tranquil, peaceful corner of our grove planted with perennials, shrubs and ornamental trees. The Memorial Garden is freely available to all of God’s children. |
