MusicThe choirs of the Church of the Holy Comforter exist to lead people in worship, to provide a medium in which those with musical gifts may approach God, to provide for the musical and liturgical training of children, and to enhance the cultural life of the community. The Adult Choir comprises more than twenty singers who sing in our 10:30 am worship on Sunday morning and in other services. The Funeral Choir is a group of mostly retired members who are able to respond on short notice to sing at funerals. The St Nicholas Singers is a group of small children who sing together during the first ten minutes of each Sunday School session and perform periodically for the congregation. The church owns two octaves of hand bells which are used occasionally in liturgy and in anthems. An active Children’s Choir is in the formation stages.![]()
Holy Comforter has an active
musical life with other offerings in addition to Sunday
morning services. This includes sung Compline services at
St. Athanasius Chapel and organ recitals.
The church is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM). The RSCM works throughout the English-speaking world to promote the use of music in enriching Christian worship and to provide practical means of achieving the highest possible performance standards for music in worship. Young singers are educated in vocal production, music reading and theory, music and church history, and Christian formation. In the past this affiliation has included hosting the Alamance Girls' Choir in collaboration with the Burlington Boys Choir. We invite everyone to join in the musical program at Holy Comforter, either as an active musical participant or as an active listener and supporter.
