Music

The music program of the Church of the Holy Comforter provides leadership in worship, gives opportunities for musicians to share their gifts in ministry and to bond as a community, and provides for the musical and liturgical training of children.

The Adult Choir comprises more than twenty singers who sing in our 10:30 am worship on Sunday morning and in other services. The Funeral Choir is a group of members, most of them retired, who are able to respond on short notice to sing at funerals. The Treble Choir is open to singers who read through age twelve.  The church owns two octaves of handbells that are used occasionally in liturgy and anthems.

The Adult Choir rehearse Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00 p.m. and the Treble Choir rehearses Tuesdays from 4:00-4:45 p.m.  They sing every three-four weeks in our 10:30 a.m. worship services, http://holycomforterburlington.org/2worship/photos/treble.choir.225w.jpg joining the soprano section of the Adult Choir or singing anthems on their own.

Holy Comforter has an active musical life with other offerings in addition to Sunday morning services.  This includes sung Compline services at St. Athanasius Chapel during Lent and organ recitals.

The church is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM). The RSCM works throughout the English-speaking world to promote the use of music in enriching Christian worship and to provide practical means of achieving the highest possible performance standards for music in worship. Singers are educated in vocal production, music reading and theory, music and church history, and Christian formation.

We invite you to join the music ministry at Holy Comforter, either as an active musical participant or as an active listener and supporter.
